Psychology Sussex provides psychological and psychiatric assessments for legal purposes and expert opinion for criminal, civil and family courts. We are instructed by prosecution and defence lawyers and by direction of the Court. Criminal cases have included assessment of fitness to plead, psychological status at the time of an alleged offence, psychological issues in mitigation and sentencing. Cases have included murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, arson, rape, fraud, indecent assault, kidnapping, grievous bodily harm and assault. Psychology Sussex in civil cases are instructed by solicitors acting for claimants and defendants and as single joint experts. Cases have included the assessment of psychological and neuropsychological injury arising from road traffic accidents, industrial injury, sexual, emotional and physical abuse in childhood, armed robbery, medical negligence, environmental pollution and other causes. Psychology Sussex also work in consultation, assessment and giving expert evidence in the family court.
